What makes you an expert?
I don't claim to be an expert in budgeting. I can claim to be an expert in tracking finances because I have done it for over ten years. I also have personally experienced a total financial turn-around by removing my head from the sand.
Why are you against using budgets?
I am not totally against using budgets. Budgets can be very useful tools. In my experience, budgets only work if you tailor them to your situation and are faithful and diligent in adding expenses and adjusting each category on at least a weekly basis. This being said, I think everyone should have on hand at least a simple budget that shows expense categories and income. This is done automatically in programs like Quicken and Mint.
Do you still use a typewriter or do you use a computer? Why should you labor at filling out a spreadsheet and having to constantly update or copy it each month when you can have a financial program do it for you?
